South West Trains has turned to BlipTrack sensor technology, to measure passenger flow, identify bottlenecks and improve the traveler experience at Clapham Junction, the busiest railway station in the UK.

With more than 2000 trains a day and over 28 million interchanges per year, Clapham Junction Railway Station, near London, is one of the busiest railway stations and transport hubs in Europe. To help measure and handle the more than 88.000 people entering and exiting the station each day, South West Trains has installed the BlipTrack flow management solution at the station´s  subway, over-bridge and station entrances.

The solution, installed and handled by system integrator telent, measures traveler flow in real-time and provides early warning when overcrowding occur. This enables station management to implement and initiate countermeasures to help reduce bottlenecks and help travelers move around the station quickly and safely.

The solution also provides access to historical data, so that traveler behavior during special events can be analysed, and used to improve future operations, station management and traveler experience.

Besides providing South West Trains with visibility on passenger flow, BlipTrack is also implemented at Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin, Edinburgh and Manchester Airports, Port of Dover and in the road network in Portsmouth. Internationally, more than 30 international airports use the Danish technology, including Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, JFK Airport in New York, Copenhagen, Oslo, Geneva, Brussels, Cincinnati and Auckland. The solution is also implemented in road traffic in BangkokSwitzerland, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Canada and Ireland. In recent years, is has been rolled out in train stations in Holland, ski resorts in the US, amusement parks in the UK, and at events all over the world.
